There are two different types of troublesome veins that are commonly by treated physicians – varicose veins and “spider veins”.
Varicose veins are swollen, tortuous appearing large veins that sit just below the skin’s surface, typically in the legs. They occur when the valves in the leg veins become less effective which then causes a pooling of blood in these areas. Often times varicose veins occur from obesity, pregnancy, menopause, and can often be inherited. These are more likely to be treated by a vascular surgeon or other physician specializing in ablative procedures.
At Natural Image Skin Center, our Doctors are very experienced in treating unwanted red and blue smaller leg veins, or “spider veins”. These are typically removed with a procedure called sclerotherapy. These dilated skin veins and capillaries are injected with a solution that helps the vein to fade. Fine capillaries and the smallest spider veins are also treated effectively with laser.
