Microdermabrasion will be coming soon to our office in Hackettstown.
Microdermabrasion is a gentle resurfacing process that involves exfoliating the top epidermal layer revealing youthful more radiant skin. A precision handpiece is used that directs a spray of microcrystals combined with mild suction to remove the the outermost layer of the skin. Most patients describe a slight abrasive sensation during the treatment but discomfort is generally minimal. The process generally takes about 20 minutes.
WHEN IS MICRODERMABRASION TYPICALLY USED?
Microdermabrasion is often indicated for dull or uneven skin tone, fine lines, blackheads, wrinkles, acne scarring, hyperpigmentation, and sun spots. It is also a very effective cosmetic treatment for acne.
WILL I SEE IMMEDIATE RESULTS?
Results will depend on the severity of the skin condition being addressed and multiple treatments may be indicated. One treatment leaves the skin looking fresher and feeling subtle and smooth. However, multiple treatments over the course of several weeks may be needed for many of the above mentioned conditions.
WHAT ARE THE SIDE EFFECTS?
Microdermabrasion is a gentle exfoliation. Some redness may occur but diminishes quickly. It is important to keep the skin well protected with emollients and sunscreen after the procedure.
Other potential side effects include a darkening of the skin, worsening of acne symptoms, and itching. Patients may be asked to discontinue specific topical skin treatments several days before and after microdermabrasion.
